About Wayanad

Edakkal Caves :
These caves date back to 5000BC and is the major tourist destination in Wayanad. There are two Edakkal Caves, formed by a large split in a huge rock roofed over by other large rocks, natural rock cutout formations, all fixed in position through natural processes. Their ancient carvings and pictorial wall inscriptions are famous world-wide, of human and animal figures with peculiar head-dresses and symbols. Archaeologists say the place was one of the earliest centres of human habitation.
Muthanna Wildlife Sanctuary:
This wildlife sanctuary is famous for elephants and you can easily see these herds of beasts roaming around naturally. It spreads over 345km and so is rich in flora fauna. Other animals like deer, monkeys, tigers, birds etc. can also be sighted here frequently. Elephant rides are also can be arranged by the forest department.
Chembra Peak:
This peak is 2100m above sea level and is the highest peak in Wayanad. It gives a panoramic view of hills, rocks and valleys which also makes it the favourite trekking peak. Trekkers take almost day to climb this peak and can stay in temporary shelters on mountain top. The mesmerising beauty of Wayanad visible from top of Chembra peak is exhilarating.
